This Tagin-English Dictionary mobile application is aimed at preserving the words use in the Tagin community. This application will help in spreading the dictionary to the maximum readers as compare to its predecessors like Tagin Language grammar and Dictionary (2013) and Tagin –Tanyi ethnic Dictionary booklet 2011). The Tagin words enlisted in this dictionary are written with the modified roman script and its word meaning is expressed in English. The phonetic of the Tagin or Tanyi language is closer to the Devanagri script but most of the Tagin or Tanyi language speakers are more accustomed of writing with roman script so this dictionary is written with modified roman script. This Dictionary contains 9649 Tagin words which are explained with its grammatical function, synonyms in Tagin and its usage in sentence formation. There is no clear-cut demarcation of language spoken by Tagin in Upper subansiri with rest of the community of Abotanyi descendents from East Kameng to Dibang valley. Most of the words enlisted in this dictionary are also used by other community of the Abotanyi descendent. Example:-1. laam, lamda, lamgu, laung, lamtv and bvda are synonymes for the word road, tract, way and path. 2.apin,dvgam,dooki ,dvgu and achin are synonyms of food or cooked rice and there are so many such words which are spoken commonly by all the descendant of Abotanyi .In the olden days the vowels were not taken care while writing in Tagin so it was creating lots of confusion and extraction of meaning from a sentence was difficult for a new reader. In roman script there is no short and long vowel but the Tagin Modified roman script have long vowel and short vowels like a(अ), aa(आ) ,u(उ) uu(ऊ) i(इ) ii(ई) e(ए) ee(ऐ), o (ओ) and oo(औ.),v(è),vv(èè) and w(Ǝ).ww(ƎƎ).Example 1..”anv” is mother but “aanv “ is ‘one who arrives. 2. “pudo” is dragging /pulling/pouring something as in “Tara issi pudo” (Tara is pouring water) and “puudo” is flowering/graying hair, as in ‘seenv apu puudo”(tree is flowering), “dumpu puudo” (hair is becoming grey)..3 “jido” means gives/donates/offers as in “Tara morko jido”(Tara gives money) and “Jiido” means planting sapling in the wet cultivation field as in “tara amv jiido”(tara is planting sapling in the crop field). “ si; means “this”,is a determiner as in “si donyi”(this is sun) and “sii” is a noun which indicates “earth deity” like sii uyu,sii yaapa, sii moro sii nyemar etc.. 4.”kedo” means “runs away” as in “Tara kedo”(tara runs away) and “keedo” mean excavating something from the ground as “tara tachi keedo”(tara excavates crab from hole). 5.”potv” means a ‘matured cock” as in “rokpu potv nv aku”(one big matured cock) and “pootv” means fatty, large in girth size. 6.”lvnv” means the “big toe” and “lvvnv” means big stone or the person who planted something in the ground.7.”kwdo” is punching and “kwwdo’ is boiling something in pot.For last twelve years I have been constantly working to improve the contents of the Tagin dictionary and this will continue in the future also.I sincerely thanks the Director of the state Central Library Itanagar and all the readers for buying my books which actually encouraged me to improve the contents of this dictionary. With all your continue blessings this Tagin dictionary mobile application will be upgraded with more words and features in the days to come. Till then let’s preserve and promote our Tanyi language.Umbonyi!
